Our Programs

The 842 Computer Training Program

T he 842 Computer Training Program is our computer literacy initiative for under privileged members of developing communities in Africa.  It is a cost free establishment set up to provide quality Computer Information & Communication Technological Skills to our clients.   This initiative originally began in the Oru Refugee Camp, Federal Republic of Nigeria West Africa in 2002.  This program was founded to provide a suitable communication technological platform upon which refugees in the camp and members of the host community could be adequately trained and equipped for the labor market in their local communities and the world at large.

Children Transformation Outreach Program

The Children Transformation Outreach Program is designed to address the increasing needs of struggling and less fortunate youths in Africa. It focuses on the academic, social, mental, physical and of course spiritual development of children in line with Christian values and principles. We are totally dedicated to the rebranding of the next generation of Africans who are truly the leaders of the future. Our approach to the rebranding process is to provide free quality educational, social and emotional transformation programs at all levels for less privileged children.

We believe that transformation comes through information and that a man’s mind set determines the settings of his life. At present, our primary project focus is on post war Liberia. Our goal in Liberia is to establish and equip free academic and skills training institutions in the country where the illiteracy rate currently stands at 80%. We are highly interested in education for post war Liberia.  The country is starving for any educational advancement they can get. Liberia, after fourteen years of civil war, is desperate to return to normalcy and a large part of that is getting hundreds of thousands of children that have been displaced, former child soldiers and orphans back in schools.

Heart of Grace Elementary School, built by CAN in 2008, is located in Johnsonville, Monrovia (Liberia). For this community of about 25,000, Heart of Grace is the only free elementary school for former child soldiers, orphans and struggling kids whose lives have been devastated by a 14yr period of ruthless civil unrest which led to a steep decline in development and overall quality of life. The Heart of Grace Elementary School currently has about 600 students with 25 teachers including administrators who are helping to transform the lives of these kids and reshape their future. Currently they earn $30 per month as a stipend. As a point of reference, a sack of rice costs $40. Our goal is to be able to offer a minimum wage salary of $80 per month for each teacher. Considering they could make more selling in the markets, it is a blessing to see such dedication and commitment to the children of Liberia. The Adopt-a-Teacher Endowment Fund was created to assist our qualified teaching staff in meeting their basic personal needs, further allowing them to concentrate on providing free quality education and training to the children.

Children Physical Development Initiative

In this program, we regularly organize the children in the community during weekends or vacation periods for physical education training free of charge. This includes various sporting activities such as Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Kick ball etc. Sports and physical activity have been proven to contribute to the development of social and academic skills in youth.

Adult Literacy Program

Our organization also provides free educational opportunities to people in Africa who are above normal school age but still have the desire and determination to learn how to read and write. We provide them with an ideal learning environment and opportunity to come to school in spite of their age or financial ability. We help them to acquire basic education that would assist them to move along and cope with a rapidly changing world. We believe that, all men must be given the privilege to learn how to read and write and pursue their own meaning of happiness in life regardless of circumstances.

“At night the elementary school is used for adult literacy. We heard from several students but one woman was 39 years old in second grade. Three years ago she did not know how to hold a pen to write her name. She is married to a university professor and works to provide for her family in the market during the day. This is the only school open at night. Her husband is so grateful for her education because now he can leave her notes at home if he needs to.”   --Recent update from site visit by Heather Lecky, CFO, CAN   .

The Yassah's Sisiters Program

People like Yassah Ford are promoting changes in education, community health and more.

CAN has partnered with Ms. Ford to create Yassah's Sisters in an effort to provide a lifeline to Yassah's efforts while making a public statement that we are all connected and responsible for each other. The sisterhood meets regularly to discuss Yassah's pressing needs and ways those needs can be met.

Currently, the team is also working to build a system of micro-loans; a powerful way to build economies in struggling areas.
